Tips to Ensure a Successful House Moving

If you want to successfully move house, you need to do a lot of planning. From the company you choose to how you pack your stuff, many decisions need to be made. Here are several tips.

Choosing a Company

At the centre of a successful move is a capable and trustworthy removal company. You can check for any public reviews for companies on Google. Has a friend moved recently and can recommend a business? Alternatively, you could check independent review sites to see what customers are saying, both good and bad. A reliable company will ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible, and they'll take great care of your things.

Packing Properly

To be organised and move your stuff safely, you'll need to treat the packing process seriously. Don't leave it to the last moment, but pace yourself according to your schedule. For example, if you have plenty of time before the move, you could opt to pack a room every three days. Once you start, you'll get a better feel for how long the process takes.

Label each box with the room destination to prevent chaos at your new place on moving day. That way, the removalists can distribute the packed boxes around your new home in the appropriate spots rather than stacking them all randomly in a couple of rooms.

Use smaller boxes for heavy items, and put the heaviest things at the bottom. Larger tea-chest boxes can hold things like table lamps. Use butcher's paper to pack the boxes, and make sure to label the boxes "fragile" if they have breakable stuff. You can take important paperwork with you in your car.

Photographing Items

A phone camera can come in handy during the moving process. You might not want to keep a detailed inventory list of each box, but you could photograph each one to keep a quick record. If you number the boxes, you can number the photos accordingly: 1A, 1B, 2A, etc.

You could also take photos of fragile items as you pack them on moving day so the removalists can see their perfect condition before they're transported.

Getting a Good Price

You may not necessarily want to go with the cheapest price, as the integrity and efficiency of the furniture removalist are crucial. And it can be worthwhile to pay extra for peace of mind. However, you may get a better rate without compromising quality by being flexible about when you move. For example, you could inquire whether a move midweek is cheaper than one at the weekend, which is usually a peak time. Additionally, certain times of the month and year are busier than others. So if you have a lot of leeway, you may be able to reduce costs by moving at less popular times.
